Leadership must demonstrate active accountability, establish a clear OH&S policy, and foster an organizational culture that supports the safety system.

• Worker Participation and Consultation: A unique and vital pillar of this standard is the mandatory involvement of workers. Organizations must establish processes for consulting non-managerial staff and ensuring their active participation in identifying hazards, designing safety training, and assessing the effectiveness of safety protocols.

• Proactive Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment: Organizations must establish ongoing, systematic processes to identify physical, chemical, biological, and psychosocial hazards in the workplace before they lead to accidents. They must assess these risks and prioritize controls according to the hierarchy of controls (Elimination, Substitution, Engineering, Administration, and PPE).

• Legal and Regulatory Compliance: The standard requires a structured framework to identify, monitor, and stay up to date with applicable local and international occupational safety laws and regulations.
